Spring Streets

The Street

“For to tempt and to be tempted are things very nearly allied – whenever feeling has anything to do in the matter, no sooner is it excited than we have already gone vastly farther than we are aware of.”
– Catherine II

Your name.
Came from the first Shakespeare play I ever read.
Almost new in the world,
those days I committed Portia’s speech to
memory.

My life
is a fiction. A waiting or a wanting for
disruption and recovery, gathering and dropping and breaking
histories and remembrances of others at my
feet.

The street.
is a secret. A quiet whisper of words I speak.
Where I run to and from any of its closeness,
watched by tall trees against an empty spring
sky.
